Useful Guidelines
These are only guidelines to assist you in making your experience so much more enjoyable.
  • It is advisable to consult with the AA of South Africa and your vehicle insurance for your requirements about crossing the border by vehicle.
  • It is not recommendable to change money at the border.
  • As a south African Citizen you no longer require a visa. A R13.00 fee is payable at the border with your passport.
  • Make sure of your expiring dates on your passport, as well as your driver's license.
  • Third party insurance is compulsory at the border at an approximate cost of R150.00 & R80.00 per trailer.
  • Operating hours at the Komati border is between 06h00 and 22h00
  • Strictly adhere to the traffic rules!
  • It is advisable to find out about evacuation for medical assistance in case of an emergency and if your medical aid will assist.
  • Make copies of all your personal documents in case of loss. This will make your life much easier.
  • Should you not have roaming facilities on your cell phone, "MCEL" starter packs can be bought for about R 100
  • Driving on beaches are strictly for launching boats at designated sites.
  • Standard electrical outlets are used as in South Africa
  • Malaria: you are strongly advised to take all the necessary precautions to avoid any possible inconveniences as most other places in Mozambique are prone to malaria.
  • Meat, Dairy Products and Fresh Produce MUST be vacuum sealed, and you are not allowed to bring these products back to South Africa upon return.
For First Time Visitors
  • You can exchange money at the exchange Bureau at Komatipoort by the BP garage.
  • Pack your valid
    • Passports
    • Drivers Licence
    • Vehicle Registration Documents / Letter of Authorization from the vehicles finance company or bank.
    • Trailer Registration Documents
    • Boat Registration Documents
    Make copies and use them. Never give originals!!
  • A Blue triangle must be displayed in front of your vehicle and on back of the trailer as well.
  • Third party insurance is compulsory and is obtainable at the border.
